MPC 60 · BackFlip
The MPC 60 and 60ii play 12-bit sound at 40 kHz, and only from their own files. BackFlip converts your WAVs to that format, builds the program, and writes the kit into a ZuluSCSI drive your 60 has formatted. No sampling each sound in by hand.

From a folder of WAVs to a program on your MPC 60.
Drag WAVs onto the pads one at a time, or a whole folder at once. Four banks of 16, so up to 64 sounds per kit.
The RAM meter switches to the 60 and shows how much of its memory the kit takes. Set the arrow to the RAM your machine has, from the stock 750 KB up to 1.5 MB.
Trim, fade, filter, tune, reverse and level any pad. What you hear when you click a pad is what gets written to your 60.
Pick the drive image your 60 formatted and an empty partition (A to Z). BackFlip writes the .SND sounds and the .PGM program into it. Copy the image back to the SD card, select that partition on the 60, and load the program.
The 60 needs its files in its own 12-bit format. BackFlip does that part for every route.
BackFlip writes straight into a drive image your 60 already formatted, into the partition you pick, and leaves the other partitions alone. Confirmed on a real MPC 60-2.
Already moving files another way? Hit CONVERT and BackFlip saves the .SND sounds and the .PGM program to a folder, ready for whatever you use.
BackFlip converts every sound to the 60's own format: 12-bit, 40 kHz, mono. That makes a stock 60 hold about 13 seconds of sound in all, and an expanded one about 26.
To fit more, pull in the End to cut tails you don't need, or Tune a sound up and tune it back down on the 60. A sound pitched up is shorter, so it takes less memory. The RAM meter shows the difference as you go.
Check that MIDI LOCAL is switched on, on the 60's MIDI page. With it off, the pads only send MIDI out and don't play the 60's own sounds, even though every sound plays fine from the sound screen. Turn it on and the kit plays.
Yes. BackFlip kits have loaded on 60s and 60iis running the stock OS and Vimana.
One .SND file per sound, in the 60's 12-bit format, and a .PGM program that puts every sound on its pad. Load the program and the kit comes in with it.
Both. BackFlip runs on macOS 13 or later (Intel and Apple Silicon, signed and notarized by Apple) and on Windows 10 and 11. Your purchase email has both downloads.
