Get your WAVs into an MPC 5000

BackFlip builds a ready-to-load MPC 5000 program around your WAVs, every sound already on its pad, and saves the kit to a CompactFlash card or your 5000's internal drive.

How it works

From a folder of WAVs to a program on your MPC 5000.

  1. 1

Drop your sounds on the pads

Drag WAVs onto the pads one at a time, or a whole folder at once. Four banks of 16, so up to 64 sounds per kit.

  2. 2

    Pick MPC 5000

The RAM meter switches to the 5000 and shows how much of its memory the kit takes. Set the arrow to the RAM your machine has, from the stock 64 MB up to 192 MB.

  3. 3

    Shape each sound (optional)

Trim, fade, filter, tune, reverse and level any pad. What you hear when you click a pad is what gets written to your 5000.

  4. 4

    Hit CONVERT

BackFlip saves the kit as one folder: a WAV for each sound and the 5000 program file. Copy it to the card or the internal drive and load the program. The sounds come in with it.

Getting the kit onto your 5000

The kit is a plain folder of files. Put it wherever your 5000 loads from.

◆CompactFlash card

Put the card in your computer's card reader and save the kit folder from BackFlip straight to it.

◆Internal drive

Mount your 5000's internal drive on your computer and drag the kit folder in.

How much fits

~6 minStock 64 MB, stereo
~19 minMaxed at 192 MB, stereo

BackFlip writes 16-bit, 44.1 kHz WAVs. A stock 64 MB 5000 holds about six minutes of stereo sound, and a maxed-out one about 19. Plenty for full loops on every pad.

Want more room? Set the MONO/STEREO switch to mono and stereo sounds fold down to mono, at half the memory.

Questions

Will it still sound like my MPC 5000?

Yes. Conversion has two halves: the AD going in and the DA coming out. Loading files only skips the input side. Every sound still plays back through your MPC 5000's DA and outputs, which is where a lot of that character lives.

What files does BackFlip make for the 5000?

One WAV per sound and a 5000 program file that puts every sound on its pad, together in one folder named after your kit.

Mac or Windows?

Both. BackFlip runs on macOS 13 or later (Intel and Apple Silicon, signed and notarized by Apple) and on Windows 10 and 11. Your purchase email has both downloads.
